The combination of being fairly new to the thriller genre as well as too much time and too many books read between reading and writing the review makes for a fairly non-specific review. I remember enjoying my experience enough to keep the book but not enough to write a review with much if any detail. It was a fun read but nothing unique.
This sequel and conclusion to the duology felt far more like a loosely connected companion which I enjoyed but not nearly as much as the first book. This book lacked almost all of the snark and witty banter of the first. I loved the yearning portrayed in the male lead but missed the original dynamic.

This book took me by surprise. I really appreciated the care Burgos applied to her portrayal of domestic abuse in a young relationship as well as the complex dynamic of young Miosotis discovering the abuse and her attempts to help her beloved sister. She also has her own struggle with her attempt to raise her grades so her father will allow her to get a dog. I will definitely read from this author again.
Yet another nonfiction book about the power players in business, lobbying and politics got my blood boiling. It’s hard to say that I “enjoyed” this book but I definitely appreciated the reading experience as well as the research that went into the writing of the book.

I always enjoy Pau Preto’s writing. Unfortunately, the extended time between reading book one and book two, the time between reading and writing the review, and the sheer number of fantasy books I have read in the month of November as I completed the Goodreads Choice Awards Fantasy and YA fantasy categories mean that chances of a detailed review are out the window. Like The God and the Gwisin, another duology conclusion I read recently, the sequel did not
quite live up to my remembered experience of the first. I still really enjoyed the book and will continue to read whatever Pau Preto releases.
This book is absolutely adorable. Even though both the main character and target age are younger than my usual grades, I still greatly appreciated the read and will definitely put this book on my classroom shelves.
