Wow. Newman crafted a masterful study and condemnation of the British monarchy’s involvement in the slave trade. Newman chronicles the centuries long history of this abhorrent practice with careful eye to detail and an engaging narrative voice. I highly recommend this book.
This graphic novel is a beautiful, fantastic adaptation of the phenomenal novel by Rita Williams-Garcia. Sharee Miller’s amazing artwork brilliantly compliments and enhances the narrative. I highly recommend both versions.

I do not particularly care for cats and I still found this novel absolutely adorable. Heather Fawcett created a cozy fantasy with a main character who clearly loves her family (human and feline) as well as a grumpy, yet misunderstood antagonist/love interest. I wish that not as many days had passed between reading the book and writing the review so that I could remember more of this adorable narrative. I will definitely continue to read from Fawcett.
As a teacher, I absolutely loved this book and the way that the system actually worked to get the main character the help that she needed. This kind of representation – both the different learning ability as well as the dedicated educators – is so needed. I highly recommend this graphic novel.

Both installments in this series stretch the suspension of disbelief way too far. I wanted so much to enjoy these graphic novels especially after reading the first portion, the set up,

which laid the groundwork for fantastic representation. Unfortunately, even given the hypothesis that the books are set in the not too distant future, believing that middle school age kids with basic training could navigate high tech spaceships completely on their own is too far to be believed.
Once again, the curse of the good but average fantasy book strikes again due to the time and books read between reading and writing the review. I remember enjoying the book, which has a premise that reminds me of The Knight and the Moth although this one was published first. I also appreciated the fact that Rogerson did not weigh down the narrative with a love story. Alas, more details escape me.
