CRAW Region 1 Week 4 – Cooler and Faster

Monday, 53 minutes, 6.82 miles (.57 miles walking)
I had some of the strangest dreams I can ever remember last night. I went through the motions in the morning of getting ready for the run but still felt wigged out. So, thanks for the cooler temperatures, I pushed my run until after school and got to enjoy a slower morning well still working on things for school of course. I did not feel the same spring in my step as yesterday but I do keep in mind that I had an entire day at school under my belt today. I still ran strong and enjoyed the run. My left hamstring felt a little tight so I’ll be foam rolling for sure.

Tuesday, 53 minutes, 6.87 miles (.56 miles walking)
I look forward to the runs but sometimes I just have to get them done. My left hamstring has felt weirdly tight or sore. I started to notice it yesterday and definitely still noticed it today. I told myself to just focus on form and firing those glutes. Somehow that turns into a faster pace that I have had for a while although the same pace as yesterday. I will continue to playthings smart and properly recover and strengthen the muscles.

Wednesday, track miles, 3.03 miles (.55 miles walking)
I think the hamstring soreness came from some new-ish exercises that I performed Sunday after my run and ride because it felt nearly back to normal when I ran today. For the first time since I started working at my current school, I hit the track for my run after school. It’s not often you find a middle school with a full 6 lane track. I didn’t run speedwork per say although I did run a faster lap every other lap and walked for a little bit after each faster mile. Both miles I got in under a 9 minute pace!

Thursday, 53 minutes, 6.21 miles (.57 miles walking)
We had rain move in in the afternoon so I stopped by the house to change and grab my kindle before heading to the gym. (My treadmill hasn’t even gotten past the order processing stage.) I felt fairly steady on this run, nothing extraordinary which provides relief after the hamstring soreness on Monday and Tuesday.

Friday, 53 minutes, 7.10 miles (1.62 miles walking)
As the week drags on, the mental motivation lags. I have noticed that as I start the runs I feel like I might be too tired to do well on the run. Instead of giving in, and I kept plugging away and forced myself to focus on the strength that I still feel in my stride. That made for a much more enjoyable run.

Saturday, long run, 14.78 miles (2.25 miles walking)
I love the days I get to run with Mom. We had a solid run with a little history lesson on current events with Israel. I told her that she probably got more than she bargained for when she asked the question but she told me she expected it. ? My left quad decided to get right at the start but at one of our stops I stretched it and it went back to behaving.

Sunday, mile for the streak, 1.47 miles, stationary bike, 12.36 miles, ( miles walking)
I felt fine during the maintenance mile and enjoyed the bike ride although I should probably wear longer shorts.
