CRAW Region 3 Week 3 – Regaining Motivation

Monday, 60 minutes, 7.01 miles, 15 minutes bike ride, 4.94 miles (.54 miles walking)
I think my dwindling motivation to start the run has a lot to do with the ridiculously short evenings. As soon as I realized that running right away after school on the track held me accountable, the day got short and running on the track after YIG does not work because we don’t have lights around the track. Today I went straight to the gym and got the ride in but when I got home I did not feel motivated to get on the treadmill. I pushed past that lack of motivation and got on. So many things started to distract me but I kept pushing through even though I had almost no motivation to run. Physically I felt fine. I finished the run and I’m so glad I did.

Tuesday, 60 minutes, 7.12 miles, (.41 miles walking)
My body felt fine, strong actually. Motivation has been hard to come by. A lot more if that comes from the world around me, a world I never thought I would live in, a world where a wannabe strong man refuses to admit defeat and creates a cult around him, a works where science skeptic parents scream loud enough for babysitters that the district forces square pegs into triangle shaped holes.
The run however? The run never disappoints. It gives catharsis and strength for whatever comes next.

Wednesday, streak mile, 1.85 miles
I ended up running a lot later than I had planned due to a faculty meeting and a HS YIG kick off meeting. That probably helped since for some reason I cannot fathom, my left hamstring got super sore and tight yesterday when I woke up. It had gradually relaxed by the time I started to run and I squeezed in the mile.

Thursday, 60 minutes, 7.50 miles (.60 miles walking)
When I started everything felt average. I had to pause at mile 2 for a pit stop but when I started running again it suddenly felt hard, not in my legs, but with my breathing almost. Hard to explain. I paused at mile 3 to catch my breath. For there I forged ahead with different motivation/distraction techniques and made it through the 60 minutes. Things started to feel much better at that point as well.

Friday, 60 minutes, 7.44 miles, indoor cycling 4.89 miles
Summer just won’t let go of South Carolina. Mid 70s and less than two weeks until Thanksgiving. I got in the run and a ride in a sort of brick work out. I ran to the gym, rode 15 minutes on the bike, and then ran back. I felt more tired in the return journey, expectedly so. At the end, however, I loved getting out and running.

Saturday, Hartness Half Marathon + some, 16.28 miles
Stay tuned for a race recap (what are those again?) That will go into full details of this “half marathon” and the extra miles.

Sunday, streak mile, 1.64 miles, stationary bike, 13.52 miles
I actually do not have much to write about these two different activities. I felt fine on the mile although I could feel soreness from yesterday’s race. Trail races definitely work your muscles differently. The ride passed fairly quickly with nothing of note throughout those 45 minutes.
