CRAW Region 5 Week 1 – This Will Be Quick

Monday, 67 minutes, 7.48 miles, spin bike, 20 miles, (1.49 miles walking)
I felt really strong on the run with Mom. It has been a long time since I have not had a long run. I also felt great on the hills, loved it so much. I did not feel as great on the bike. My motivation was not quite as distracting as I needed. My gut also decided to feel weird, not bad, just weird, so I took a brief break halfway through. I got it done though.

Tuesday, 67 minutes, 7.54 miles, spin bike, 20 miles
My glutes felt the squats I did earlier in the day but even with that I still felt strong on the hills, a different kind of strong than Monday. I briefly considered running shorter but I plan on a “rest” day tomorrow (aka only 1 mile) in preparation of my Thursday 20 mile long run to close out 2020. I’m so glad I stuck it out. I still need to build up the mental stamina on the bike though.

Wednesday, streak mile, 1.56 miles, spin bike, 20 miles
I wanted to run longer but kept it at a mile in preparation for the long run tomorrow. Everything felt in order on the run and on the bike.

Thursday, long run, 20.59 miles, spin bike, 8.70 miles
When I woke up and heard rain, which we had partially expected, I started steeling myself for 20 miles on the treadmill. Then, I checked the weather. No rain! So, we left from the house and headed down to the Swamp Rabbit Trail. I felt good and stuck to the plan knowing that 20 miles gets decided much later in the run. A little after 6 miles, Mom needed to make a pit stop. Thankfully, we had just reached the Swamp Rabbit Cafe. It had started spitting rain, nothing too steady but when it’s already chilly, not pleasant at all. So I figured that we could run back to the house, have nearly 13 miles under our belt and I would finish the remaining 7 and change on the treadmill. Breaking the run into chunks helped so much mentally. Once I finished, I wondered how my legs would feel on the bike. Turns out, they loved it! I think I will feel a lot less sore tomorrow because I did that. Plus, I reached 500 miles on the bike as well.

Friday, streak mile, 1.54 miles, spin bike, 10.4 miles
My legs felt only mildly fatigued after yesterday’s long run. I will take that as a win for the 8ish miles on the spin bike afterwards. A good, low-key way to ring in the new year.

Saturday, 67 minutes, 7.17 miles, spin bike, 20 miles, walking 1.01 miles
Having watched part of the Golden Trail Championships, I felt really strong heading out on this run. The fog hanging over us made it even better since it evoked a little of the weather conditions of the Golden Trail Championships. Although on the way back, that pep started to fade, I channeled the memory of how I felt at the beginning to keep moving forward and log an excellent run.

Sunday, streak miles, 2.59 miles, spin bike, 20 miles
I felt really strong on the run. I kept checking in with my body to make sure I knew how I felt and everything said “all systems go.” I ran only a couple miles since I want to get back on my usual weekly schedule with the long run coming next Saturday. The ride felt great too and the time passed quickly.
