Running Deeper – Week 6 of 16 San Francisco Marathon Training

Overall I would characterize this week as a lackluster week of training. Nothing has felt fresh but nothing felt bad either. I am not sure why but hypothesize that much of it comes from the end of the school year and also the draining effect that heat has on me. Once again, I face the dilemma that is the school district’s decision to turn the air conditioning off at 2pm and the need to get my work done before leaving the school building. I have a fan, thanks to Mom and Ellis, so hopefully, the heat will not play such a large factor in the remaining 16 days of school.

Monday 55 minutes easy
I did not think that I would need the easy pace but my legs definitely felt the work I put into the progression run the previous Saturday. I did enjoy the run through. (I have one other note on my paper runner’s journal about this run but I have absolutely no idea what I wrote. Perhaps I sleep wrote those two words?)

Tuesday tempo intervals with warm up and cool down
The intervals, run at a slightly faster pace than the previous weeks, felt increasingly more difficult as I progressed through. I briefly considered cutting off an interval or two but I pushed through and felt accomplished when I finished. I did have to cut off some of the cool down though due to time constraints and needing to get in a shower before heading to work.

Wednesday strength training
I must have really pushed on Tuesday because Tuesday evening when I attempted to do my regular evening exercises to strengthen my hips, I could barely get through any of them so I postponed them and started thinking about postponing strength training the following morning which is exactly what I ended up doing. I think my legs thanked me for the recovery time.

Thursday 40 minutes with short, hard effort intervals near end
It felt strange having a run this short during this training cycle. My legs still felt a little tired but I enjoyed the run. Since my brain also decided to go on the fritz during this run, I managed to forget to start my Garmin again after a stop just after the turn around point. (I forget where we stopped.) I thought I solved the problem by switching my Garmin with Mom’s (since I keep track of the turn around points and etc…it’s easier for me to be the one calling the timing shots.) I managed to forget to restart hers as well after the switch. Boy did that make me laugh. We missed only a minute though so no worries. I loved seeing the difference in the run cadence though after I synched my Garmin. No wonder she gets so many more steps than I do!

Friday strength training
I legit thought it was Wednesday morning the whole time we were in the gym. Thinking it’s Wednesday and finding out that it’s Friday, not that bad. Overall I focused on maintaining good form and pushing myself to complete each exercise.

Saturday long run with 5k sandwiched in the middle
